The anatomy of my writing income & schedule.

In February of 2020, I quit my office job at a digital marketing agency and booked a one-way flight to Medellin, Colombia.

The gist of the idea was simple: I was tired of working in ecommerce, and I wanted to see if I could take freelance writing and blogging full-time while living somewhere cheap (and beautiful).

Comuna 13 in Medellin.

At the time, my blog was covering my cost of living at around $1,500 per month in income.

I also had one main freelance writing gig with a large personal finance site, as well as a shaky, occasional ghostwriting gig.

I’ve really gone down the YouTube rabbit hole since I started my channel a few months ago.

After blogging for 2+ years, it’s been very enjoyable to mix up mediums and to grow This Online World’s presence on a new platform.

Additionally, starting a YouTube channel has also inspired me to start a new case study!

If you missed the first part, you can checkout my post on how to get 1,000 YouTube subscribers to learn how the channel has grown and how you can build your own YouTube presence as a…

The 8 Actionable Tips I Used to Grow.

One of my favorite series on This Online World is my Road to A $100/Month Blog series.

While it’s a short series, there’s something deeply satisfying about tracking your milestones and goals and putting all of the information into a collection of posts.

I also think the process of honestly tracking something is useful for others.

In the case of blogging, I hope that my mini-series highlights that while it’s possible to make money by blogging, it also takes a lot of work and dedication.

Since it’s been about 3 months of steady work on my new YouTube channel experiment

I think there’s certain income milestones that standout when you first start a side hustle or work on developing different sources of income.

What to do when your advertising budget is $0

It doesn’t matter if you run a blog, an e-commerce store, or have a website for your business; driving traffic to your website is ultimately a critical element of making money online.

Now, I’ve worked in paid advertising for more than three years, and let me tell you, a profitable Google Ads PPC campaign or Facebook campaign is a beautiful thing.

After all, with paid ads, scaling is easier, you can reach your customers instantly, and your decision-making process is much faster since you accumulate meaningful data fairly quickly.

But, obviously, not every business has a budget for paid advertising…

When it comes to picking a side hustle idea or looking for different sources of income, any amount can make a difference.

It does’t matter if you use passive income apps to make extra beermoney or run a successful business that makes an extra $1,000 per month or more; progress is progress!

However, at the same time, our time is precious. As I discovered recently in my paid survey experiment, some side hustles have a very high opportunity cost which people should take into consideration.

So, today we’re going to break…

When it comes to starting a blog, one of the most common questions people undoubtedly ask is how to pick a blog niche or what is the best blog niche out there?

I’ve seen this type of question pop up on forums countless times, and I’ve even gotten a few emails asking for advice over the past 2 years.

Now, I will say there is no cookie-cutter method for choosing a blog niche. …

The Benefits of Freelancing For Young Adults — Financial & Career Implications

Medellin Antioquia.

Last September, I took my first foray into remote work and ended up moving from Toronto, Canada down to the warm beach-side town of Daytona Beach, Florida.

At the time, the move was fantastic. I was able to work 8 hour days for a digital marketing company back home, earn decent money, and spend my evenings drinking cheap beer on the beach or exploring different parts of the state.

However, after 3 months of remote work, it was time to return home and to resume office life.

I lasted about a month.

Don’t get me wrong: working a 9–5 had…

It’s hard to believe it’s nearly the two year anniversary for This Online World.

2019 has been an incredible year. Between major growth for This Online World, starting to work remotely, and getting plenty of traveling done, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced so much change in such a short period.

I am immensely grateful to every reader and subscriber. Your readership, comments, criticisms, and questions all make blogging that much more rewarding and enjoyable.

It’s been nearly two years since I started blogging at This Online World.

When I first started out, my blog was a disorganized, jumbled mess of content. I also wasn’t overly familiar with WordPress, how to write content that can rank, or how to even make money blogging in the first place.

Since then, This Online World has grown into a nice source of extra income. Blogging has also allowed me to meet so many incredible people I normally would never cross paths with and to learn a host of new skills.
