Last September, I took my first foray into remote work and ended up moving from Toronto, Canada down to the warm beach-side town of Daytona Beach, Florida.
At the time, the move was fantastic. I was able to work 8 hour days for a digital marketing company back home, earn decent money, and spend my evenings drinking cheap beer on the beach or exploring different parts of the state.
However, after 3 months of remote work, it was time to return home and to resume office life.
I lasted about a month.
Don’t get me wrong: working a 9–5 had quite a few perks:
- I still enjoyed the work.
- Salaried pay + benefits was decent for a 23 year old with a psych degree.
- I was close to friends and family.
